EMPORIA, Kan. (April 5, 2014) – Roz Hamilton qualified for nationals in two events and Somer Helms and Sarah DiBiasi did the same in one event each, highlighting Oklahoma Christian’s outing Saturday at the State Farm Emporia State Relays.
Hamilton, training to eventually compete in the heptathlon at the National Christian College Outdoor Track and Field Championships, posted qualifying times or marks in the 100-meter hurdles (16.62 seconds) and discus (36.24 meters).
Helms, like Hamilton a senior, ran a 27.00-second time in the 200 meters to qualify for the national meet, while DiBiasi qualified in the high jump with a leap of 1.50 meters.
Makenzie Brown, in her second meet after joining the track team following the end of the basketball season, had already qualified for nationals in the discus but improved her stock with a season-best throw of 37.02 meters to finish fourth, one spot ahead of Hamilton. Brown was OC’s highest individual finisher in any event.
Hamilton also ran fifth in the 800 meters in 2:25.74, just off the NCCAA qualifying standard. Katie Ostlund also posted a fifth-place finish in her specialty, the javelin, with a throw of 40.15 meters. She had already qualified for nationals in that event.
