WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 18, 2013) – After the first round of the Midwestern State Invitational on Monday, Oklahoma Christian is in a good position to battle for what would be the Lady Eagles’ first-ever tournament title.
Led by Anna Arrese Cortadellas, who was tied for the individual lead, OC posted a team score of 317 at Wichita Falls Country Club and was in third place in the 18-team field, three shots behind Midwestern State and one shot behind Central Oklahoma.
Six other teams were within 14 shots of the lead, which should make Tuesday’s second round on the par-72, 5,875-yard course even more competitive than usual.
Arrese Cortadellas shot a 72 to share the first-round lead with Hee-Leina Kim of Colorado State-Pueblo. Arrese Cortadellas recorded three birdies – all on par-5 holes – and 12 pars.
OC senior Sarah Harper also had three of the Lady Eagles’ eight birdies on the day and was tied for fifth after firing a 76.
As for OC’s other players, Catherine Odgers posted an 83 and was tied for 33rd in the 97-woman field, Morgan Dockery shot an 86 and was tied for 52nd and Aubrey Meisch shot an 88 and was tied for 65th.
OC has finished second eight times in the program’s two-year history but never has won a team tournament title.
