NORMAN, Okla. (May 20, 2014) – Oklahoma Christian’s Sam Johnston has been named to the NCAA Division II PING All-South Central Region golf team.

The Golf Coaches Association of America announced the honor Tuesday. Johnston, a sophomore from San Diego, made the 12-man all-region squad for the second straight year. Last year, Johnston went on to become the only Heartland Conference player to make the Division II PING All-America list, netting second-team national honors.

During the 2013-14 campaign, Johnston led the Heartland (and was third in the region and eighth nationally) in stroke average at 72.15 shots per round.

He won a pair of tournaments, the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate at The Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz., and the Dr. Troy Bledsoe Skyhawk Shootout at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
