WICHITA, Kan. (March 22, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian banged out 20 hits and picked up a pair of complete-game pitching performances as the Lady Eagles swept Newman (Kan.) 12-3 and 6-3 on a chilly Friday afternoon.

OC (15-11) has won seven of its last eight games overall and is 6-1 against Heartland Conference competition this season, although the conference doesn’t count softball games involving the Lady Eagles in the league standings.

Martha Thomas led a potent OC offense by going 4-for-6 in the doubleheader against Newman (3-27). In the first game, the Lady Eagles gave up three runs in the bottom of the first, but then overwhelmed Newman with an 11-run second inning, highlighted by a grand slam by Kala Ratliff and a solo home run by Thomas, both off Kelsey Jones (2-7). Thomas also had an RBI single during the outburst.

After the rough first inning, during which she gave up three hits, OC starter Lindsy Moore (5-5) blanked the Jets the rest of the way, allowing only two more hits. She struck out four batters.  The game was ended after five innings due to the run rule.

In the second game, OC pitcher Krystal Rodriguez (5-1) threw another complete game, allowing eight hits. It was Rodriguez’s second complete game this season.

Down 1-0 entering the second inning, the Lady Eagles scored five runs off Newman starter Taylor Parsons (1-11). Thomas started the inning with a double to left field and by the time the rally was finished, Lauren Pittman and Michelle Miller had hit RBI singles and Sarah Peoples had laced an RBI triple to center field.

Newman scored twice in the third inning, but Rodriguez settled down, allowing only two more hits and retiring seven straight batters in one stretch. OC added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, as Thomas singled and scored on a single by Ratliff.
