Heartland names Johnston as player of the week for 3rd time
OKLAHOMA CITY (March 7, 2013) – For the third time this academic year, Oklahoma Christian’s Sam Johnston has been named as the Heartland Conference’s men’s golfer of the week.
Johnston, a freshman from San Diego, led OC to a second-place finish at The Contender, played at TPC Four Seasons in Las Colinas, Texas, site of the PGA Tour's annual Byron Nelson Championship. He finished sixth individually in the 75-man field, firing rounds of 71, 75 and 79 on the par-71, 7,166-yard layout.
He played steady golf on a warm Monday, then when temperatures turned cooler and the winds picked up considerably Tuesday, his score didn't rise as much as those of other players in the field, allowing him to move up in the top 10.
Johnston also received the Heartland award twice during the fall season. He’s one of three OC golfers to have received the honor this academic year, as Jared Consoli won it once and Vilhelm Bogstrand won it twice during the fall season.
