LUBBOCK, Texas (Jan. 19, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian sophomore Cassandra Hallam ran a strong mile and finished 17th in her indoor track season debut on Saturday in the Masked Rider Open at Texas Tech.
Hallam’s performance was tops among OC competitors at the meet. She posted a time of 5:30.19 and placed in the upper third of the 54-woman field.
Besides Hallam, two of OC’s other middle-distance and long-distance runners competed for the first time during the indoor season on Saturday. Maria Sargent was 25th among 41 runners in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:36.77, while Noemi Hernandez was 31st among 41 competitors in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:59.14.
OC’s 4x400-meter relay team was 19th out of 24 squads, finishing in 4:13.52. Individually, sprinters Rebecca Bloodworth and Wilmena Gley finished 55th and 58th in the 55 meters, posting times of 7.92 seconds and 8.07 seconds, respectively. They did not qualify for the finals in the 63-woman field.
