Oklahoma Christian University officially opened the Boker-Wedel Eagle Trail Thursday night with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the inaugural Eagle Trail Glow Run, sponsored by Mercy, TeamOC and OC's Student Government Association.
Approximately 500 students, alumni, faculty and staff members participated in the special event, which included 2.5-mile and 1.25 mile fun runs.
The 3.1-mile trail, which is open to the public, features side-by-side asphalt and crushed granite paths around the OC campus. The trail connects with the growing Edmond trails system and will eventually connect with the Oklahoma City trails system.
A $605,000 grant by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation was matched by private donors to fund the project. Greg and Valari (Boker) Wedel provided the lead gift in honor of their parents.
Greg is a member of OC’s Board of Trustees and Valari is a 1982 OC alumna.
