OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 11, 2013) – Winning the Heartland Conference men’s basketball player of the week honor is becoming a nice habit for Oklahoma Christian center Will Reinke.
For the fourth time this season, the 6-foot-10 senior from Lawton received that honor from the conference, this time after leading the Eagles to wins over McMurry (Texas) and St. Edward’s (Texas).
Reinke, a preseason NCAA Division II All-America selection by Basketball Times, is the first player this season to win the Heartland Conference weekly award four times. Only one other player, Kevin Kotzur of St. Mary’s (Texas), has won it three times. As a junior, Reinke twice was named as the Sooner Athletic Conference player of the week.
Last week, Reinke had a pair of double-doubles – raising his season total to 10 – as the Eagles beat McMurry 77-61 and St. Edward's 84-78. For the week, Reinke averaged 19.5 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocked shots per game while shooting 48.4 percent from the field (15 of 31) and 81.8 percent from the free-throw line (9 of 11).
Reinke is second in the Heartland Conference in scoring this season (18.6 points per game), second in rebounding (10.0 per game), first in blocked shots (2.3 per game), 11th in assists (2.4 per game), fourth in field-goal percentage (55.8 percent) and 13th in free-throw percentage (74.7 percent).
With 1,340 career points, Reinke this week moved past Danny Brown (1993-1997) into 23rd place on OC’s all-time scoring list. Reinke is 66 points away from tying his former teammate, Jeff Crocker, for the No. 22 spot.
The Eagles have four regular-season games remaining before the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region tournament. They will host Dallas Baptist (Texas) on Saturday afternoon.
