OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 15, 2013) – For the third time in as many tournaments, Oklahoma Christian’s Anna Arrese Cortadellas has been named as the National Christian College Athletic Association women’s golf student-athlete of the week.
The NCCAA honored the junior from Barcelona, Spain, on Tuesday, for her play last week in the RCB UCO Classic at Lincoln Park Golf Club’s East Course in Oklahoma City. She earlier had earned the Heartland Conference player of the week award for her performance in the event.
Arrese Cortadellas tied for fourth in the tournament, firing an even-par 71 in the final round to finish at 4-over for the tournament. She led the Lady Eagles to a runner-up finish in a stacked field that included four teams ranked in the current Golf World/Women’s Golf Coaches Association NCAA Division II coaches’ poll.
Her top-10 individual finish was the 20th of her collegiate career in as many tournaments. She ranks second in the Heartland Conference in stroke average this fall at 73.6.
Arrese Cortadellas has won a national player-of-the-week award a remarkable 11 times during her OC career. She took the NAIA honor twice as a freshman in the spring of 2012, then was a six-time NCCAA winner during the 2012-13 academic year. No other OC student-athlete ever has won more than three national player-of-the-week honors, either from the NAIA or NCCAA.
Earlier this fall, she took the NCCAA honor after the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at Lincoln Park’s West Course and Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate at Coldwater Golf Club in Avondale, Ariz.
