OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 23, 2013) – Roberto Diaz is now 2-for-2 this season in winning Heartland Conference runner of the week honors, keeping alive a remarkable streak by Oklahoma Christian’s men’s cross country team.
Diaz, a junior from Austin, Texas, received the conference’s weekly honor Monday after a strong showing in the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo., two days earlier.
Leading a shorthanded squad missing two of its top five runners, Diaz posted a career-best 8,000-meter time of 25:06.85 to finish sixth in the 175-man field. The Eagles finished seventh in the team competition.
It’s the third time in his career Diaz has been named as the conference’s runner of the week, as he also won the award once as a sophomore. Since joining the Heartland before the 2012 season, OC runners are 7-for-7 in winning runner-of-the-week honors.
