OKLAHOMA CITY (March 12, 2013) – After posting her first career win last week, Oklahoma Christian’s Morgan Dockery has been named as the NCCAA women’s golf student-athlete of the week.

Dockery, a senior from Andrews, Texas, was honored Tuesday for earning medalist honors in the Diffie Ford-Lincoln Invitational at Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond.

Dockery and teammates Catherine Odgers and Sarah Harper entered the tournament as individuals at the last minute and the decision proved to be a good one, as they finished 1-2-3 in the six-team, 38-woman event.

Last Monday, Dockery posted her best round of the year with a 2-over-par 72 in the first round on a warm, sunny day, putting her four shots clear of the field on the 5,821-yard course.

Playing conditions turned bad the next day, with temperatures in the high 30s and low 40s and winds blowing 30-35 mph that sent many scores into the 90s and 100s. But Dockery played steady, shooting an 84 to record a two-shot win over Odgers.

Dockery became only the second player in OC women's golf history to take medalist honors in an event, joining her teammate, Anna Arrese Cortadellas. Dockery also joined Arrese Cortadellas as the only OC players to win a national player-of-the-week honor. Arrese Cortadellas has won six, two in the NAIA and four in the NCCAA, one of those coming last week.

Dockery was one of a record four OC student-athletes to receive an NCCAA student-athlete of the week honor Tuesday, joining Sam Johnston (men’s golf), Katy O’Steen (women’s basketball) and Will Reinke (men’s basketball).
