OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 24, 2013) –Add Johnny Ellis to the list of Oklahoma Christian men’s golfers who have received a weekly national player-of-the-week honor.

On Tuesday, the National Christian College Athletic Association named Ellis, a senior from Bellville, Texas, as its student-athlete of the week. Ellis was honored for his play last week in the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas.

Ellis, playing as OC’s No. 4 man, led the Eagles to a third-place team finish, finishing eighth overall in the 90-man field with a three-round score of 7-under-par 209 on the 6,538-yard course. He opened the tournament with a 5-under 67 and followed with rounds of 69 and 73.

It was the third career top-10 finish for Ellis.

Ellis became the fourth OC golfer to win the NCCAA honor since the university joined the organization before the 2012-13 season. Current sophomore Sam Johnston received the award three times last season, while now-departed players Vilhelm Bogstrand (twice) and Logan Herbst (once) also were honored during 2012-13.

During the 2011-12 season, current OC senior Alasdair Dalgliesh was named as the NAIA player of the week once.
