Edmond Memorial soccer standouts Tippeconic, Helker sign with OC
EDMOND, Okla. (Feb. 22, 2012) – Troy Tippeconic and Evan Helker, who are set to begin their senior soccer seasons together at Edmond Memorial High School, have signed letters of intent to play collegiately at Oklahoma Christian, OC men’s coach David Scott said Friday.
Tippeconic, a midfielder-forward, helped Memorial go 7-4 and reach the Class 6A playoffs last season, scoring five goals. In three seasons with the Bulldogs, he has scored 26 goals and added 30 assists while the team has gone 27-9.
He is the brother of current OC junior midfielder Tom Tippeconnic.
“Troy is a very talented player who will bring more creativity to our attack,” Scott said. “He possesses good quickness and has the ability to take players on one-on-one. He understands the game well and will help improve our ability to possess and create opportunities through midfield.”
Helker, a goalkeeper, spent his junior season at Edmond Santa Fe High School, where he recorded nine shutouts, allowed only 10 goals and made 75 saves, leading the Wolves to the 6A quarterfinals. In club soccer, he led his team to an age-group state championship and a berth in a regional club tournament in South Carolina.
“Evan is a player we have watched for a long time,” Scott said. “Over the past few years he has turned into a very complete goalkeeper. He has good size and is long giving him good range. He controls his box well. Evan will have the ability to come in and compete for the starting position right away.”
Both Helker and Tippeconnic received honorable mention on The Oklahoman’s 2012 All-City honor teams.
