Eagles take Texoma Championship for 3rd straight year
KINGSTON, Okla. (Oct. 2, 2012) – For the third straight year, Oklahoma Christian has won the Texoma Championship at Chickasaw Pointe Golf Club.
With four players finishing in the top 10 – including runner-up Jared Consoli – the Eagles posted a team score of 872 for the three-round event and finished 16 shots ahead of second-place Southwestern Oklahoma State. It was the first team tournament win of the fall season for OC.
On Tuesday, the Eagles shot the low round of the day with a 289, paced by a 2-under-par 70 by Logan Herbst. Consoli, who held the second-round lead, closed with a 73 and finished at 216, two shots behind Southwestern’s Taylor Howie, who shot a final-round 70.
OC golfers were all over the leaderboard. Herbst finished sixth at 218, and his teammates, Sam Johnston and Vilhelm Bogstrand, tied for seventh at 219. Bogstrand had won medalist honors at the Texoma Championship in 2010 and 2011.
An OC golfer playing as an individual, Alasdair Dalgliesh, also tied for seventh following a final-round 74 on the 7,085-yard layout on the shore of Lake Texoma.
The only OC starter to finish outside the top 10 was Johnny Ellis, who ended up tied for 22nd in the 77-player field at 229 after shooting 77 on Tuesday.
As for OC’s two other individual players, Trey Payne shot an 80 to finished tied for 30th at 232 and Taylor Williams’ 78 left him at 236, tied for 42nd.
The Eagles will have three weeks off before playing in the NCCAA Championship from Oct. 22-24 at The Hombre Golf Club’s Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City Beach, Fla.
