Eagles’ rally falls short in 2-1 loss at Dallas Baptist
DALLAS (Oct. 11, 2012) – Landon Lacy scored two goals and Dallas Baptist completed a regular-season sweep of Oklahoma Christian with a 2-1 win on Thursday night at Patriot Field.
Dallas Baptist (4-6-1) jumped to a 2-0 lead after 48 minutes and held off OC (5-6) after Brandon Little Axe scored for the Eagles in the 49th minute.
The Patriots rolled to a 3-0 win at OC on Sept. 27, but Thursday’s match was much more tightly contested, with DBU posting a narrow 12-10 advantage over the Eagles in shots.
Lacy put DBU ahead in the ninth minute, finishing off a free kick by Brian Robertson from 40 yards out. The Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the 48th minute, with the same duo teaming up. Lacy broke through the OC defense and finished with a shot to the bottom right corner of the goal.
But less than two minutes later, Little Axe broke open in the box after taking a pass from Sam Guernsey and scored to pull the Eagles within 2-1.
OC managed five shots after that, with DBU goalkeeper Chuck Schober making three of his four saves during that span. The Patriots also had a decent number of second-half scoring chances, earning nine corner kicks after halftime.
OC goalkeeper Tim Spencer finished with three saves.
It’s possible that DBU and OC could meet again this season, if both qualify for the NCCAA Central Region playoffs.
The Eagles will play their final road game of the regular season on Saturday at St. Edward’s (Texas).
