Eagles outhit, then outpitch MidAmerica Nazarene in sweep

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 8, 2013) – Cory Eastwood had three hits, including a key RBI double in a four-run fourth inning, as Oklahoma Christian beat MidAmerica Nazarene 7-5 on Friday in the first game of a doubleheader.

Luke Sandoval pitched a complete-game three-hitter for the Eagles as they completed a sweep of MNU with a 4-1 win at Dobson Field. With the wins, OC extended its winning streak to four games and surpassed its wins total from the 2012 season.

In the opener, OC (10-7) trailed 3-0 before tying the game in the third inning. Garrett Guys’ sacrifice fly scored Markus Carr, who had been hit by a pitch leading off, and Blake Stringer followed with a two-run single up the middle.

The Eagles scored four runs in the fourth to take control. Garrett Stephenson scored on a grounder by Jordan Lopez to put OC up 4-3, and Eastwood followed with his run-scoring double off MNU starter Kyle Olson (1-2). Dillon Andrews’ triple scored Eastwood and Guys singled home Eastwood. OC finished with 11 hits.

OC starter Cale Coshow (1-2) allowed 10 hits but struck out six batters in six innings to pick up the pitching win.

Sandoval (3-0) handcuffed the Pioneers in the second game, recording a career-high 12 strikeouts.

Sean Murphy doubled and scored on a single by Stephenson in the second inning for OC and the Eagles went up 3-0 in the third as Caleb Price and Andrews both singled and scored off MidAmerica Nazarene starter Blake Robberson (1-2).

MNU (6-7) scored its only run in the fourth, but the Eagles matched it in the fifth thanks to Stringer’s run-scoring single, his second RBI of the game.

OC and the Pioneers are scheduled to play another doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.
