Eagles beat Southeastern Oklahoma State, Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (Feb. 16, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian’s men’s tennis team wrapped up a three-matches-in-three-days trip to Arkansas on Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 win against NCAA Division II No. 47-ranked Southeastern Oklahoma State.

OC (5-1) coasted to three doubles wins over the Savage Storm, with the Eagles’ No. 2 team of Julio Pulido and Nicolas Auruccio and the No. 3 team of Josip Smoljan and Paulo Roessle both winning 8-0.

Only four of the six singles matches were played, and OC’s Bruno Tiberti, Martin Poboril, Smoljan and Pulido won those in straight sets. Auruccio and Roessle didn’t play singles, as the No. 5 and No. 6 position matches were cancelled.

In a match that ended late Friday, OC held off No. 29-ranked Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) thanks to wins by the Eagles’ No. 4, 5 and 6 singles players.

OC led 2-1 after the doubles matches. Three of the singles matches went three sets, prolonging the match. Ouachita Baptist won two of them, with Marko Boskovic beating Tiberti 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 at the No. 1 position and Helge Knuth downing Poboril 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2.

But at the No. 5 position, Auruccio won for OC, beating Teddy Anahel 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Eagles.

Pulido beat Ouachita Baptist’s Vitor Oliviera 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 and Roessle downed OBU’s Ricardo Bassani 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 for the Eagles’ other two singles points.
