Cowan, Drewke lead way for Lady Eagles on 2nd day at Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. (Jan. 11, 2014) – Maegan Cowan and Kara Drewke finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 600 meters, then helped the Oklahoma Christian 4x400-meter relay team take fourth on Saturday on the final day of the Missouri Southern Indoor Invitational.

Cowan, a senior, finished with a time of 1:29.38 in the 600, while Drewke, a sophomore, closed in 1:36.31. Drewke ran the lead leg and Cowan the third leg in the 4x400, and together with Rebecca Bloodworth and Andrea Dennis, teamed to finish in 4:12.05, a respectable time for the first meet of the indoor season.

In the 400 meters, seniors Somer Helms and Wilmina Gley took fifth and sixth, respectively. Helms finished in 1:03.98 while Gley finished in 1:06.26.

OC’s middle-distance and distance runners also had good showings. Freshman Layne Hammer, in her first collegiate track meet, was eighth out of 19 runners in the mile with a time of 5:37.86, while another freshman, Katie Jones, was 10th in a 19-woman field in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 11:43.02.

On Friday, three OC competitors posted qualifying marks for the National Christian College Athletic Association Indoor Championships – Dennis in the 200 meters and Miranda Ostlund and Katie Ostlund in the weight throw.
