Castany wins 2 tight matches as OC downs No. 40 Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 2, 2013) – Gisela Castany teamed with Barbora Bozkova to take a tight doubles match, then won a three-set singles match to lead Oklahoma Christian past No. 40-ranked Midwestern State (Texas) 6-3 on Saturday at the MSU Tennis Center.

OC (5-1) took a 2-1 lead in the doubles portion of the match over Midwestern State (4-2) by winning two tiebreakers. Bozkova and Castany beat Taylor Coffman and Sarita Adhikary 9-8 (3) at No. 1 doubles and OC’s No. 2 duo of Maryfer Abreu Roman and Gabriela Carrillo beat Madeline Schorlemmer and Lauren Pineda 9-8 (5).

Three Lady Eagles – Bozkova, Abreu Roman and Carrillo – won in straight sets in singles play. At the No. 1 position, Bozkova dispatched Coffman 6-0, 6-1. Abreu Roman, at No. 3, beat Kayla Casey 6-1, 7-5, and Carrillo, at No. 4, downed Schorlemmer 7-5, 6-3.

Castany’s match at the No. 2 position was tougher, but she prevailed 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 over Adhikary.

OC, which has won three straight matches, will travel across town to play Southern Nazarene next Saturday before leaving on its annual spring break trip to Florida, where the Lady Eagles will play five matches in six days.
