Burgess signs with Phillies; assignment to be determined
OKLAHOMA CITY (June 11, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian pitcher Chris Burgess signed with the Philadelphia Phillies organization on Tuesday, three days after the team chose him in the 26th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Burgess, a right-hander from West Chicago, Ill., will learn later this week to which of the Phillies’ minor-league teams he’ll be assigned.
Burgess went 7-0 with a school-record nine saves and a 1.54 ERA for the Eagles this past season, helping them finish 26-26 and reach the National Christian College Athletic Association World Series.
He was named as an NCCAA All-American as well as the NCCAA Central Region pitcher of the year and the Heartland Conference’s second-team honor list.
