OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 31, 2012) – Make it 5-for-5 for Oklahoma Christian’s men’s golf team in Heartland Conference player of the week awards.
Vilhelm Bogstrand won the conference honor on Wednesday after his fifth-place finish in the Crown Classic in Lufkin, Texas, earlier in the week.
It was the second straight week the senior from Oslo received the award, as he also was honored after earning medalist honors at the NCCAA Championship.
An OC golfer took the weekly conference award after each of the Eagles’ five tournaments this fall. In addition to Bogstrand, Sam Johnston won it twice, after the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic in Wichita, Kan., and the U.C. Ferguson Classic at Lincoln Park Golf Club’s West Course; and Jared Consoli won it once, after the Texoma Championship in Kingston.
In the Crown Classic, in a field full of NCAA Division I players, Bogstrand was the top non-Division I finisher, finishing at 7-over-par 223 on the par-72, 6,692-yard course at Crown Colony Country Club. He led the Eagles to a third-place finish behind Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State. The Eagles beat four Division I squads.
