OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 30, 2012) – Not surprisingly, Oklahoma Christian’s Vilhelm Bogstrand was named Tuesday as the NCCAA men’s golf student-athlete of the week.
Bogstrand, a senior from Oslo, earned medalist honors last week at the NCCAA Championship at The Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla. Bogstrand posted a three-round score of 8-under-par 208 on the 6,517-yard course, three shots better than his teammates and runner-ups Sam Johnston and Alasdair Dalgliesh.
Bogstrand became the second OC golfer to win national medalist honors, joining Oscar Stark, who was the medalist at the 2011 NAIA Championship.
The Eagles won the team title by a whopping 52 shots, setting a school record for margin of victory and an NCCAA record for overall low score at a national championship with an 838.
Bogstrand is the second OC men’s golfer to win the NCCAA award this fall. Johnston received the award after the Eagles’ opening tournament of the season, the Diet Pepsi Shocker Invitational in Wichita, Kan.
This fall, six OC student-athletes have combined to win eight NCCAA national awards in five sports – men’s and women’s golf, men’s tennis, men’s soccer and women’s cross country.
