Baseball team helps man with home renovations in Guthrie
GUTHRIE, Okla. (Sept. 10, 2013) – Members of Oklahoma Christian’s baseball team spent about five hours Tuesday helping to renovate a home for the parents of a man who had lost part of his arm.
OC coach Lonny Cobble befriended the man, Gene Owen, many years ago when both attended Westwood Church of Christ in Edmond. Both Cobble and Owen now attend New Hope Church of Christ in Edmond and Cobble learned that Owen was working to fix up a house into which Owen’s parents planned to move. Cobble knew Owen would need some assistance to get that done.
Thus a community service project was born. Cobble and his family and more than 40 players loaded up a bus and traveled to Logan County, where they did a little bit of everything to get the house ready for Owen’s parents.
“We had lots of fun and worked very hard,” Cobble said. “We got a lot done.”
