Baseball game at Panhandle State cancelled; Newman game up in air
OKLAHOMA CITY (May 1, 2013) – With a storm set to possibly bring snow and other winter precipitation to the Oklahoma Panhandle, Oklahoma Christian’s baseball game Wednesday at Heartland Conference rival Oklahoma Panhandle State has been cancelled, OC coach Lonny Cobble said.
The game will not be rescheduled. Both games between the Eagles and OPSU ended up being cancelled this season, as the Aggies weren’t able to play at OC on Feb. 13 due to a winter storm.
Cobble said coaches will assess weather conditions and decide Thursday morning whether or not OC will play its scheduled regular-season home finale against Newman (Kan.) later that day.
OC will host the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region tournament on May 7-9. So far, three teams are confirmed to play in the event – OC, Central Baptist (Ark.) and Ecclesia (Ark.). McMurry (Texas) would need to sweep NCAA Division II power St. Mary’s (Texas) in a three-game series later this week to qualify.
Crowley’s Ridge (Ark.) also remains a possibility to play in the tournament, although that college’s representatives haven’t contacted OC coaches or athletic department officials to let them know of their intentions.
