OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 1, 2013) – For the second straight week, Oklahoma Christian’s Anna Arrese Cortadellas was named Tuesday as the National Christian College Athletic Association women’s golf student-athlete of the week.
It’s the 10th time in her remarkable career that the junior from Barcelona, Spain, has won a national player-of-the-week award. She took the NAIA honor twice as a freshman in the spring of 2012, then was a six-time NCCAA winner during the 2012-13 academic year. No other OC student-athlete ever has won more than three national player-of-the-week honors, either from the NAIA or NCCAA.
She was honored this week for her play last Monday and Tuesday in the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate at Coldwater Golf Club in Avondale, Ariz. After a first-round 5-over-par 77 left her outside the top 10, she fired a final-round 73 on the 5,995-yard course to rally for a fourth-place finish.
Arrese Cortadellas kept alive her remarkable streak of top-10 finishes and now is 19-for-19 in her collegiate career. She helped OC finish tied for second in the team race with NCAA Division II No. 22-ranked Northeastern State, one shot behind Chico State (Calif.).
