10th-ranked Eagles grind out 5-4 win at No. 31 Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 2, 2013) – In its first match since debuting in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NCAA Division II rankings, No. 10 Oklahoma Christian scored big wins at the top two singles positions and beat No. 31 Midwestern State (Texas) 5-4 on Saturday at the MSU Tennis Center.

OC (6-1) had been off for two weeks since its last match, but extended its winning streak to four – three of those over ranked foes.

The Eagles took a 2-1 lead over Midwestern State (4-2) in doubles play, with OC’s wins coming at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. OC’s Julio Pulido and Nicolas Auruccio beat Kyle Davidson and Franko Siljeg 8-5 at No. 2, while Paulo Roessle and Josip Smoljan downed Midwestern State’s Tomas Grejtak and Austin Crawford 7-5. Roessle and Smoljan are 7-0 in doubles this season.

Midwestern State’s Luke Joyce and Colby Meeks upset OC’s eighth-ranked duo of Martin Poboril and Bruno Tiberti at No. 1 doubles, but Tiberti turned the tables on Joyce at No. 1 singles. Tiberti, ranked No. 41, rolled past the 39th-ranked Joyce 6-0, 6-2.

Poboril also rebounded from the doubles loss, beating Davidson 6-4, 6-3. Pulido took the No. 4 singles match by beating Crawford 6-3, 6-4, clinching the win for the Eagles.

Auruccio suffered his first loss of the season in six singles matches, falling 6-4, 6-4 to Siljeg at the No. 5 position.
