Internet Search Engines
Search the entire Internet using keywords identified by using a metasearch
index tool. These engines use a computer "robot" to update their
Web indices frequently. HINT: see How

- One of the largest search engines on the Internet.

Search Engine Colossus
- Search Engine Colossus offers you links to search engines and directories
from 195 countries and 43 territories around the world.
- Fast
- All the Web, all the time.
- Google
- Search engine developed at Stanford University.
- Hotbot
- Search engine powered by UC-Berkeley's INKTOMI technology.
- Ixquick
- A metasearch engine that searches 12 engines simultaneously for
Web pages, MP3s, News or pictures. Supports searching in a dozen languages.
- Go.com
- Uses artificial intelligence to assure accurate searching.
- Looksmart
- A search engine that claims to have the effect of entering an online
service, much like AOL.
- Northern
Light
- A search service that saves busy people time by providing the quality
information needed to meet the challenges of modern living. They accomplish
this with Custom Search Folders, premium quality sources, and an integrated
results list of Web and premium information. Special collection documents
may cost up to $4 to view.
- Search.Com
- Taps into Infoseek for general searching, but uses its own database
for subject searches.
- Webcrawler
- Search WWW document content.
World Wide Web Directories
Extensive (but not exhaustive) directories of Web pages grouped by major subjects. Usefulness is limited to each directory's major categories.

- A categorized subject directory for those with limited time and a favorite topic to explore. Not a complete search of the Internet.

Infospace
- The Washington Post called this site the Web's premiere online directory. "Fast and comprehensive."

Librarians' Index to the Internet
- A searchable, annotated, subject directory of close to 3,000 Internet resources chosen for their usefulness to the public library user's information needs.

Yahoo!
- Subject oriented catalog of the Internet. Refers to other search engines (defaults to Altavista) if there are no good matches in its own listings. Outward referrals are very significant.

Yahooligans
- A subject directory for children.

Use these tools to identify keywords. They are inadequate for a complete search of the Internet due to limited retrieval.

- Search results are usually prefaced by questions aimed at helping users find the information they want.

- Excellently formatted parallel Web search service.

- Send in your question and human volunteers will try to find an answer. May take up to 48 hours. This is not the place for urgent needs, but may be perfect for those looking for personal, human guidance.

- Excite's news-only search service.

SoonerSearch
- Search through more than 150 Oklahoma state government, higher education
and public library websites. Searches can be limited to state agency websites,
college and university websites, or public library websites.

- Looking for an academic or research site? Over 20,000 sites categorized and reviewed. Ratings by grade level and notes if visual aids are available. Useful for papers.

- Search engine for researching companies.

- Find the telephone number or email address of a living person.

- Huge list of search engines, complete with descriptions and direct interfaces.

- Find a business on the Net. Provides a map and driving instructions to site of business.
