GENERAL:

- Read any one of thousands of classic books free at this site. The
archives include the works of Shakespeare, religious and historical
documents, children's fairy tales, Greek and Roman classics, and books
by famous American authors of the 19th century.
- Author
Webliography
- This directory is an index of indexes. It contains pointers to individual
author guides or other cumulative documents that deal with specific
writers. Most of these authors are "literary." Not many authors
from genres such as science fiction or romance are included.
- Banned
Books Online
- A special exhibit of books that have been the object of censorship
or censorship attempts. The books featured here range from Ulysses to
the Bible to Little Red Riding Hood.
- Bartleby.com
- Bartleby.com publishes literary, nonfiction, and reference works free
of charge, including titles such as: Gray's Anatomy, The Columbia
Encyclopedia, and the Oxford Book of English Verse.

- A collection of fiction reading lists. Helps avid fiction readers

editions of rare and out-of-print books. Also provides links to a wide

- Digital Book Index provides access to more than 74,000 titles available
online. It gathers both commercial and non-commercial eBooks from more
than 1800 publishers and private publishing organizations.

- An online archive of thousands of SGML-encoded electronic texts.
- Emory
Women Writers Resource Project
- The Emory Women Writers Resource Project is a collection of edited
and unedited texts by women writing in English from the seventeenth
century through the nineteenth century.
- EServer.org
- The EServer (founded in 1990 as the English Server) attempts to provide
an alternative publication venue for quality e-books in the arts and
humanities (currently 30189 of them). It offers 42 collections of e-books
on such diverse topics as contemporary art, race, 18th century literary
criticism, internet studies, sexuality, drama, design, gender studies
and current political and social issues. In addition to written works,
it publishes hypertext, audio and even video recordings.

of out of copyright works. Project Gutenberg targets: classic literature,
reference materials, and popular tie-in releases of works coinciding
with holidays, celebrations, centenaries, and television programs.

- Contains the works and profiles of this year's Pulitzer Prize winners
in Journalism, Letters, Drama and Music.

- A scholarly consortium devoted to promoting the study and enjoyment of the life, times and work of Charles Dickens. A treasure of resources for the teacher, scholar, and reader.
- Internet Classics Archive
- An award-winning, searchable collection of classical Greek and Roman texts (in English translation) with user-provided commentary.
- Middle English Literature Collection
- Although publicly accessible, the vast majority of the images and a number of the texts are copyrighted to the University of Virginia library. Please follow their "Conditions of Use" policy.

- Victorian Web: Victorian Literature Overview
- Timeline, authors, concept of literary canon, literary techniques, genres and modes, and literary convergences during the Victorian era.
- Victorian Women Writers Project
- The goal of the Victorian Women Writers Project is to produce highly accurate transcriptions of works by British women writers of the 19th century. The works include anthologies, novels, political pamphlets, religious tracts, children's books, and volumes of poetry and verse drama.
