Work:
I have worked as Web/Reference Librarian at the Beam Library
at Oklahoma Christian since August 1998. My job responsibilities include reference,
bibliographic instruction, collection development, and maintenance of the library's Web site.
School:
I did my undergraduate work
at
Vanderbilt University
(Nashville,
Tennessee) in
English
and Portuguese, and
went on to work on my Master's in
Library and
Information Studies
at the
University of Oklahoma
(Norman,
Oklahoma). I received my PhD from the
School of Library and Information Science
at the
University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill
in May 1998. My dissertation research was in the area of
Information Retrieval. To find out more about IR, go to:
Personal Info:
I was born in Gallatin, Tennessee, but my parents moved to
Campinas,
Sao
Paulo,
Brazil
when I was nine. I grew up in Brazil, and then came back to the States
to go to college and grad school.
Somewhere along the way I met
Tobin Paris,
and we got married on July 31, 1993. We moved to
Chapel Hill,
North Carolina
in August '94 and lived there until May '98, when we moved to Edmond,
Oklahoma to start new jobs at
Oklahoma Christian University.
We have two children: Bethany Anne Paris, born on April 24, 2000,
and Trenton Lee Paris, born on May 25, 2004. We also
have a very large white dog (Great Pyrenees), whose name is Dover.
Hobbies:
- I love to read (a surprising pastime for a librarian, I know), and some of my favorite authors are:
- Anne
McCaffrey
- Mary
Stewart
- Dick
Francis
- Agatha Christie
- Robin McKinley
- David Weber
- My husband and I love to travel when we have time and money (which are, for
some reason, harder to come by since we've had kids)
- I like words, and I enjoy studying other languages
- I also enjoy eBay, although that may be more of an addiction than a hobby
