Music department seeks to cheer the heart, mind and soul at OC's Winter Instrumental Concert

Feb 23, 2018

Oklahoma Christian University’s music department will host the annual Winter Instrumental Concert Feb. 25 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. The concert will take place in Judd Theater. The Winter Instrumental Concert is comprised of performances by the Chamber Orchestra, Symphonic Band and Jazz Band. The concert is free to the public.

The ensembles will perform several different types of music. The Chamber Orchestra will perform two modern pieces for string orchestra and another combined with the wind instruments. The Symphonic Band will perform two marches, one from a Japanese composer and the other from Hector Berlioz.

The Chamber Orchestra and Symphonic Band director and first-year OC employee, Eric Colgrove, expressed his excitement to highlight the ensembles’ hard work.

“We work to provide our audiences with an eclectic experience,” said Colgrove. “I hope our audience will experience an afternoon of great music performed by talented young musicians.”

OC’s ensembles are made up of music and nonmusic majors, and each group contains a variety of skill within the ensemble. Each ensemble performs at a variety of OC and community events. The Chamber Orchestra’s quartets often play for weddings and receptions, too. The Symphonic Band and Jazz Band will join for their annual tour of locations around the nation this spring.

OC’s Chamber Orchestra President, Brianna Weeks, expressed the importance of their musical performances.

“I always encourage people to go to any music event,” Weeks said. “I believe it is so beneficial for the heart, mind and soul to be exposed to music and performance.”
