New to AT&T Service - First Time Activation

As OC will be paying the iPhone equipment cost, students will be eligible to receive a 16GB White iPhone for their new line of service at no out-of-pocket cost for the device.

The definition of a new activation, and descriptions of the new activation process are listed below.

New Activation

Receiving Your iPhone

As OC will be paying the iPhone equipment cost, students will be eligible to receive a 16GB White iPhone for their new line of service at no out-of-pocket cost for the device.

In an effort to expedite the activation process for new AT&T subscribers, AT&T will be bringing retail representatives to campus beginning 8/23 and for several days thereafter. During this time, you will go through the activation process with AT&T representatives to establish your new line, finalize your rate plan selection, and activate your new iPhone. You may sign up for a time slot at the iPhone Registration Site.

Establishing Service

As a new AT&T subscriber, you will have the option of establishing service in your personal name as a student (if you are over 18), or in a parent’s name.

You may contact AT&T customer service at 1-800-331-0500, or visit any AT&T retail store, for assistance with credit check or rate plan questions prior to the campus iPhone launch events.

AT&T will be bringing retail representatives to campus on 8/23 and for several days thereafter. During this time, you will go through the activation process with AT&T representatives to establish your new line, finalize your rate plan selection, and activate your new iPhone.

All iPhone purchases require a 2-year contract on the monthly service.

Activation Fee

Please note that standard activation fees apply to all OC employees and students, and are the responsibility of the individual paying the monthly service on the account.

$36 activation fee applies to brand new lines of service, including the primary line on a Family Talk rate plan

$26 activation fee applies to brand new lines of service which are secondary ($9.99/month) lines on a Family Talk rate plan

Existing AT&T Subscriber Upgrading to 3G iPhone

Receiving Your iPhone

In an effort to expedite the upgrade process for existing AT&T subscribers, AT&T will be bringing retail representatives to campus on 8/23 and for several days thereafter. During this time, you will go through the activation process with AT&T representatives to update your account with appropriate equipment and rate plan information and to activate your new iPhone.

Equipment Upgrade Eligibility

Students whose existing AT&T line is upgrade-eligible – or students who are upgrading from the first-generation iPhone to the 3G iPhone will be able to upgrade at no additional cost.

Students who are not upgrade-eligible on their personal line will be charged an additional upgrade cost.

As OC will be paying for the iPhone equipment cost, those students processing an early equipment upgrade will be responsible for $200 upgrade charge for the 16GB iPhone or an option for a $100 upgrade charge for the 8GB iPhone

Students will be asked to make separate arrangements with OC to pay the difference in device cost due to equipment upgrade eligibility.

Descriptions of upgrade eligibility requirements are listed below.

All iPhone upgrades require a 2-year contract on the monthly service.

Authorized Order Placer

If a student is establishing service in a parent’s name, either on a brand new account or by adding a line to an existing AT&T account, it is important for the parent to name the student as an authorized order placer on the account.

This action is critical to allow the student to work directly with AT&T regarding any future questions or account related issues.

If the student is not an authorized order placer on the account, this process will need to be completed before the student’s existing device can be upgraded to a new iPhone.

OC Student Monthly Service Discount

There has been a FAN (Foundation Account Number) established by AT&T which provides an 8% monthly service discount for OC students. This discount applies to the monthly recurring charge on the voice rate plan and iPhone data rate plan. Optional features such as text messaging are not discountable.

For students with service on Family Talk rate plans, the monthly discount applies only to the primary line. Secondary ($9.99/month) Family Talk lines do not receive a discount.

The FAN must be registered on your account in order for the monthly service discounts to apply.

The correct student FAN for the agreement with OC is 2566441, which provides the 8% monthly discount described above. This FAN will automatically be added to your account at the campus iPhone events.

Note to Subscribers on Family Talk Rate Plans

If you are activating an iPhone on a Family Talk rate plan, be sure that the iPhone user is the primary line on the family plan. This is required in order for the voice rate plan and iPhone data rate plan to be discounted.

It is required that you complete this process prior to the 8/23 campus iPhone launch event.
