Advantages for Oklahoma Christian Students
The MacBook program gives several advantages for students at Oklahoma Christian. In addition to the information listed below, one of the greatest benefits of this change is that it has enabled the university to provide a significant upgrade to our program without requiring additional funding.
Incoming Students
Incoming students have the advantage of a diverse mobile computing environment and access to a variety of software products that meet the needs of their discipline. Additionally, students in areas that would benefit from the increased graphics power of a MacBook Pro, such as students working with video editing, 3D animation, or graphic design, will have the option to purchase one for a one-time fee.
Current Students
Current students will have the option to upgrade their current OC-issued laptop to a new MacBook for a one-time fee, through August 2008. For details contact the I.T. Services Help-desk.
Alumni
Students who graduate from Oklahoma Christian after the MacBook program will have several advantages including exposure to the two most popular operating systems, a variety of media applications, and the advantage of media-rich learning opportunities in their discipline. This experience is invaluable in a workforce that increasingly relies on technology and people with technological experience.
Faculty
The MacBook initiative allows faculty to easily create media-rich content for their classes to enhance the classroom environment. These media allow students to better understand and grasp the content. The options for multiple operating systems also allow faculty to be more productive and use whatever software works best for their discipline. The option to utilize iTunes U and to collaborate through the iSight cameras provide additional learning opportunities.
Internship
Apple will also hire one student on a part-time basis to assist the school with the MacBook program. This is an excellent opportunity for this student to work with a well-respected company and gain valuable skills for their resume. Interested students may apply at http://campusrep.apple.com.
