McKinzie
named Associate Director of Public Relations
Oklahoma Christian alumnus Wes McKinzie has returned to his alma mater
to serve
as the university’s associate director of public relations. McKinzie most
recently served as an account manager for McAuliffe, Norick & Associates,
an Oklahoma City-based agency that specializes in advertising, communications
and special events.
"We
are looking forward to working with Wes." said Kyle Wray, Vice President
for Marketing and Enrollment. "He brings a great deal of experience
to Oklahoma Christian. His experience and rapport with the
local media will help to advance the image of the university."
"I've
known Wes personally for five years but this is the first time
I've had
the chance to work with him," said co-worker Dan Lovejoy, Associate
Director of Interactive Marketing. "I've seen Wes exhibit the
'Second Mile' attitude at church and with his family. I'm
excited
he'll be joining us." The 1998 OC
alumnus previously worked for three years in the Arena Football League,
earning Media Director of the Year
honors in 2001 when he served as
the director
of communications for the Oklahoma Wranglers, Oklahoma City’s professional
football team. McKinzie went
on to work in the league office in Chicago as the manager of communications
for arenafootball2 before returning to
the
Oklahoma City area last year. “ We have
been blessed beyond measure in our decision to come back ‘home’ to
Oklahoma City,” said McKinzie, whose family includes Delisa,
his wife of 11 years, and their three-year-old daughter Mikayla. “Now
I’m thrilled
to have the chance to get back on campus and give back to a place that
has given me so much.” McKinzie also
has experience as a member of the Oklahoma City media. He worked
as the sports producer for KWTV,
producing sportscasts and
various
sports specials
with Dean Blevins and the late Bill Teegins. His print experience
includes work for the Daily Oklahoman and the Edmond Sun. McKinzie
currently is working toward a master’s degree in journalism
and mass communication at the University of Oklahoma. Since he
graduated summa cum
laude from Oklahoma Christian, the San Antonio native has remained
close to his alma mater. He worked as OC’s public relations
assistant in 1998 and 1999 and has served as the color analyst
on the university’s basketball telecasts
since they began airing on Cox Cable 3 in 2000. Before attending
Oklahoma Christian, McKinzie was the bass singer for Acappella
Vocal Band (AVB) from 1988 to 1995. In his ministry
with
the Christian
group, he recorded multiple albums and videos on the Word Records
label, wrote numerous
songs and sang in an average of 150 concerts per year. He remains
the longest-tenured member in the group’s history. return to the Campus Community
