September 11- Field of Flags on the Oklahoma Christian Campus

Hello, fellow Eagles, and a good September to you all! School year #66 is underway and all seems to be moving smoothly so far. OC's official enrollment census date was Monday and we've again welcomed more than 2500 eagles to campus. As always, we are blessed with those who have chosen to come our way and we'll do our best to serve them well.

Now, to the news...

Vienna, Austria

2nd Vienna Alumni Adventure Pricing - With the success of last year's inaugural Vienna Alumni Adventure, we're excited to begin lining up our next group of travelers. This year's pricing is very comparable to last year's excellent deal, with a slight change in excursions based on feedback from last year's group.  This year's 'inclusive' cost for room, daily excursions, breakfast and two group dinners, will be between $764 and $981 per person per room, with all rooms booked at minumum of two guests.

The difference in price is determined by the room plan selected. The scheduled arrival date at Das Millicanhaus is Saturday, April 29, 2017 with checkout on Saturday, May 6As in last year, all will make their own air reservations so that air miles and any 'deals' can be used and all can come in from their respective locations. We DO RECOMMEND that flights and any other special arrangements be made through Kate Hartman, PHONE: 405-694-0506, EMAIL: katie@kalikosmos.comWEBSITE / FACEBOOK to better coordinate arrivals and best pricing. This was a great asset with last year's group.

A more complete look at all information for the trip can be accessed online on Monday, September 19th and reservations can be made through our office beginning on Wednesday, September 21st. Our office contact is kim.reiter@oc.edu and 405-425-5110.

Dr. Ken ('69) and Lindy (Scobey '69) Adams have again agreed to accompany my wife, Judi (Williams '76), and I ('74) to lead the trip. Join us for a great week in beautiful Vienna, Austria!

Eagle for a Day/Freshman Fanfare

The Admissions Office is revamping our group visit days! They are now...Eagle for a Day! Eagle for a Day is a pre-planned group visit day dedicated to giving students a comprehensive look at OC. High school sophomores, juniors, seniors, and parents are invited to attend. Eagle for a day includes a tour of campus from a current student, worship with our students and employees at Hardeman Chapel, and meet our faculty at an academic showcase.  Breakfast and lunch are complimentary-so make sure to grab a cinnamon roll! For dates and registration information, please visit oc.edu/eagleforaday.
On Sept. 23-24, OC will host Eagle for a Day for high school juniors and seniors. Information can be obtained by contacting our Office of Admissions at 405-425-5050.  Another good reason to bring your junior or senior to campus that weekend is our annual Freshman Fanfare performance. This year's theme is "Inside Out". Showtimes are Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 pm and Saturday, Sept. 24 at 2 pm in Hardeman Auditorium.  Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Career Services Part/Full Time Job Fair

The Part Time Job Fair held September 7 was a success!  The following companies were in attendance: Chick-Fil-A of North Edmond, City Bites, Fish City Grill-Edmond, Funds for Learning, IBC Bank, Oklahoma Christian University, Oklahoma City Thunder, Oklahoma City Zoological Park & Botanical Garden, Oklahoma Employees Credit Union, ScribeAmerica, SouthernOkie, LLC., Tinder Federal Credit Union, and  WeGoLook.  This was meant to be a smaller, more intimate atmosphere, for new students attending.

The Full Time Job Fair is coming up September 30th at 12:30 pm in McIntosh Conservatory.  Contact Candace Owens at candace.owens@oc.edu if you are interested in having your company represented, or  download the app: Eagles at Work, Career Services at OC.

Ben Rector- Coming to OC October 7!

Ben Rector is coming back! One of OC’s favorite artists will be in concert on campus Friday, October 7 as part of his The Biggest Tour I Have Done So Far Tour.

Achieving remarkable success as an independent artist, Ben has sold more than 390,000 albums and nearly four million digital tracks in the course of his career. His latest album, Brand New (Aptly Named Recordings), debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. It topped the iTunes Singer/Songwriter Albums chart and peaked at No. 3 on the overall iTunes Albums chart.

The buoyant title track, which describes the elation of re-capturing the energy and innocence of his youth, is a Top 10 hit at Adult Top 40. It has been licensed by the History Channel, Nat Geo Wild and such television shows as “The View,” “American Idol” and “The Voice.”

Ben’s concert will be outside in the Thelma Gaylord Forum at 7:00 pm (general admission; standing room only). The gates will open at 6:00 pm. No outside food or drinks will be permitted.

OC Field of Flags

Our annual remembering of the Sept. 11 tragedy took place this past weekend on the campus with the placing of 168 Oklahoma flags and 168 American flags on the front lawn of our campus. The flags are put out twice per year - Sept. 11/April 19 - and the number is for the 168 lives lost in the Murray Building bombing in OKC.  This impressive memorial display has become popular for bringing visitors to observe and reflect. The picture above and at the top of this newsletter are from that display.

And finally........

Stafford North's 'Good News' Newsletter

Good News in September tells the story of great work a small congregation in Guthrie, Oklahoma, is doing to provide spiritual growth for its members and outreach to those outside the body of Christ.  The World English Institute is doing a important work in Mongolia and reports five additional baptisms there.  A church in Vicksburg, Mississippi is just opening a new facility to keep homeless families together.  OC will have its 66th Lectureship on October 2-4.

Read about all of these in the September Good News and share this newsletter with your congregations email list and your personal email list.  Spread the word.  To suggest a story for Good News go to stafford.north@oc.edu.  To see the September Good News go to www.oc.edu/goodnews.

Until the leaves turn, talk to you next month.

In Him,
Bob Lashley ('74)
