IOTA KAPPA PHI- 1st Place in Spring Sing 2017

Hello fellow Eagles! Well, ready or not, looks like Spring is 'springing' around campus. The numerous Bradford Pear trees are blooming (along with their accompanying aroma), the grass is showing signs of life and we've lost our hour of sleep. Guess it's time to tune up the mower at home and hear the platoon of the same around the campus. Time moves on - and so does the news.

Spring Sing 2017

Kappa Sigma Tau- 2nd Place
Once again, three capacity crowds viewed this year's annual long-standing tradition of Spring Sing! A new feature added this year by the Student Government Association was a silent auction to raise funds for a local charity. Our compliments to their giving spirit!
This year's winners featured 3 out of 4 spots going to womens' clubs: 1st) - Iota Kappa Phi, 2nd) - Kappa Sigma Tau, 3rd) - Phi Omega Nu, and 4th) Theta Theta Theta.  Applause goes to all participating clubs.

OC/Rwanda Relationship Celebrates 10 years!

A contingent of OC folks recently (Feb. 10) traveled to Rwanda to celebrate OC's 10th year of work with that country's students. Over that period, and including our MBA program, Rwanda now has over 400 OC alumni in that country. Photos from the event can be viewed here.

Upcoming VISION Magazine

Our next hard copy of Alumni Office's Vision Magazine should be in your hands by mid-May. This is your invitation to submit 'Milestone' items about your family additions, job changes, new degrees, etc. for that issue.
If your kids have received items from our office such as Lil' Eagle shirts, lanyards/sun glasses or back sacks as part of our 'Legacy' program, please take pictures of them with their items and submit them, as well.
Another section of the magazine is 'Where In the World is OC', where alums post pictures of themselves in OC gear during their world travels. We'd love to have yours.

You can submit any of the above to alumni@oc.edu.

OC's Hotel Storm Saving Alums Money

One of our discounts offered through the Alumni Office to alumni is this hotel discount program. We recently received a first year summary from the organization and I'm sharing those results with you in this article. By looking at the breakdown provided, you can see that alums are saving considerable money through this service. One of the results shows that the three top destinations booked through the service are: Dallas, Ft. Worth, and OKC. Don't forget to include it in your next overnight trip. The stats can be seen here. To use the service, click here.

Alumni Profiles on 'Alumni' Page

One of our goals has been to find a vehicle with which to share more profiles about alumni accomplishments. For the past 6 months or so, we have been running such profiles as a part of our 'Alumni' web page. We encourage you to check the site often to see some of the great things our alums are doing.

Also, if you would like to submit an alum's name and brief comment about them to be considered for one of the profiles, you can send that to our
alumni@oc.edu email address.

OC's Center for Global Missions

Under the direction of Ben Langford ('98), OC's Center for Global Missions serves OC students, alumni and missionaries around the world. Now in its seventh year, the work has received over $1,000,000 in donations going toward student mission trips and internships.

Two Academy Offerings for Summer

Honors Summer Academy - One of OC's most popular summer offerings on the campus is this academy for honor students. Under the direction of Dr. Jim Baird ('78) and Honors Program, Managing Director Lisa Carroll ('78), this program allows qualified high school students to get a jump on college classes under the teaching of outstanding professors. Lisa explains how you can take advantage of this exceptional program.

Summer is right around the corner!!. Have you figured out your summer plans yet?

Are you interested in kick starting your college education this summer, if so, submit your application for Honors Summer Academy! Classes are filling up, so don’t wait on this opportunity. It is a great way to earn two hours of college credits, live in a college dorm, learn from master faculty, and check out your interest in possible majors from Engineering to Sciences to Humanities and Bible.

HSA is July 9-14, 2017. Students in 9th, 10th or 11th grade are encouraged to visit www.oc.edu/hsa to view courses, videos, reflections from past attendees, detailed information and to submit your online application.  If you have any questions, please contact us at honorssummeracademy@oc.edu or Lisa Carroll at 405-425-5300.

P.S. Children and grandchildren of OC alums will receive a $50 discount and if you invite a friend to apply they both receive an additional $50 discount!

Theology Summer Academy - One of OC's new summer offerings on campus is this academy for students interested in ministry, under the direction of Peter Cariaga ('09).  Peter outlines below the details of the program.
Do you know a high school student who shows potential for ministry or other kinds of Christian leadership? Nominate them for Theology Summer Academy!
OC's newest Summer Academy is focused on equipping young women and men for faithful reflection and action in a complex world. During their weeklong residency on the OC campus, students will take college-level biblical and theological courses with OC faculty and get an insider's look into ministry with field trips to churches and other ministry settings in Oklahoma.
Theology Summer Academy will be July 9-14, 2017 and is open to students who are currently in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade. Students will receive two hours of college credit for successfully participating in the program. See www.oc.edu/tsa for more information and to submit an application, or call (405) 425-5396. Only 25 spots are available!
To nominate a student, send an email to tsa@oc.edu with the student's name, means of contacting the student and/or parents, and why you think they would be a good fit for the program.
One more thing: Children and grandchildren of OC alums will receive a $50 discount!

Stafford North's 'Good News' Newsletter

How great to know that there is good news from all over the world this month as we read about how providing water in Ghana brings people to Christ, how studies with World English Institute converts the lost, how a meeting in Liberia tells of the good work through World Bible School, and about a Christian who has survived great mistreatment with faithfulness in Zambia. This month’s Good News also tells of the topics and speakers for the Oklahoma Christian University Lectureship on October 1-3

To suggest stories, email stafford.north@oc.edu.  Please forward Good News to those on your Facebook or email list.  To reach Good News, go to www.oc.edu/goodnews.

Talk with you next month when we prepare to launch another class of alumni eagles. God Bless!

In Him,
Bob Lashley ('74)
