Lou Phillips Welcome Center – Lou Phillips, longtime employee in the offices of five of OC’s presidents, died on January 6, 2012. Lou was much loved on the campus and was the ‘go-to’ person for many of the school’s outside friends and visitors. President John deSteiguer recently commissioned the forming of a welcome center located just inside the main entrance of the Garvey Center. The president did not have to think long to decide on whose name should be associated with welcoming visitors to campus. During the last week in April, just before graduation, the Lou Phillips Welcome Center was formally dedicated. Lou’s daughter, Lori (Phillips ’79) Walle, was at the dedication and made comments on behalf of the family.

OC alumni family - Just as we were preparing to release this month's newsletter, the entire OKC community was devastated by the massively destructive tornado in the Newcastle and Moore areas. This tragedy followed just a day behind a smaller, but still-destructive series of tornadoes that hit parts of Edmond, Luther, Shawnee, and other areas. At 9:30 this morning(Tuesday), the campus family gathered for a time of prayer for all those affected. The campus itself was not touched, and on Sunday afternoon, many of our surrounding neighborhoods took shelter here. For being spared from these storms, we are thankful to God.
We are certain that a number of our alumni family, and perhaps even our campus family, have been affected by these storms directly or indirectly. In the next few days, we hope to send another special notice listing what information we can gather.
As you read the OC news in this issue, please know that we understand the perspective in which it is given. It is in times like these that OC's light can shine the brightest.
