We're Back...And So Are Our Students!

Happy New Year! Our students have been back on our campus for a little over a week now and 2nd semester is in full swing. Spring Sing practices are starting to pick up, Eagle & Lady Eagle Basketball is into conference play, and seniors are working their way toward graduation. It's going to be a great semester and we hope to see you on campus at some of our upcoming events.

6th Year of History Speaks

One of the first and most exciting events coming up at our alma mater in 2019 will be the OC’s History Speaks series. This year it is our honor to host American politician, diplomat, and civil rights activist Andrew Young. The lecture will be on Monday, February 4th at 7 pm in Garvey Center at our main Auditorium. This is a free event but a reservation for tickets is required. Click here for tickets: oc.edu/historyspeaks. Young served as a U.S. Congressman, Mayor of Atlanta, and was a Confidant to Martin Luther King Jr. We're thankful for the good work Gary Jones ’06 does in bringing Civil Rights history to Oklahoma Christian year after year. Reserve your tickets for this event ASAP.

"Complex Dialogues" Event on Campus

Coming up in February at OC will be "Complex Dialogues" with Just Mercy author, Bryan Stevenson, on February 18th. Stevenson is Founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative of Mobile, Alabama. Mr. Stevenson is a widely acclaimed public interest lawyer who has dedicated his career to helping the poor, the incarcerated and the condemned. Thank you to our sponsors George Kaiser Family Foundation, Arnall Family Foundation, Inasmuch Foundation, and Honorary Alumnus Don and Donna Millican. To secure a seat at this event, go to oc.edu/bryanstevenson.

Generous Gift to Upgrade OC Soccer Facilities

We are pleased to announce a $500,000 commitment from an OC alumnus to launch the revitalizing of our soccer facilities.  As a member of the NCAA II, Lone Star Conference, OC competes with some outstanding universities.  We are excited about the upgrades coming over the next couple of years and hope to raise additional funds to truly make our facilities one of the best.  If interested in being a part of this effort, contact david.lynn@oc.edu.

Judd Theatre Renovation Completed!

Next time you are on campus, please be sure and stop by Judd Theatre in the Garvey Center to see the freshly completed renovation of that important campus space. We are thankful to the donors who made this possible including the late Dr. David Buntley ’66 and his wife, Jane (Hendrix) ’65, who the Judd Theatre stage will be named for. This theatre is one of the most used facilities on campus for classes, musical programs, and Great Songs Chapel. The dedication will take place on February 12.

Cabaret 2019

Speaking of Judd Theatre, coming soon will be the performance of Cabaret, formerly Valentine Cabaret, which will run February 12th, 14th, 15th, and 16th. Cabaret is directed by Mr. Terry Attebery and features the amazing student talent from the OC Music Dept. If you enjoy music and have not been to this event, you are truly missing something special. Get your tickets at oc.edu/cabaret. Every performance last year sold out.

Spring Sing 2019

Be sure and mark your calendars for Spring Sing 2019 on March 1-2. Tickets go on sale to the public February 5th. You can purchase tickets at oc.edu/springsing.

Launch Day Six

Day Six, OC’s recently re-branded Calling & Career Center, in conjunction with Alumni Relations, hosted our first Adulting 101 seminar of the semester, earlier this week, called "Ask An Employer Anything". Alumni panelists included OC alumni Kevin Lawrence ’01 with BancFirst, Erin Engelke ’00 with Calm Waters, Matt Thomas ’01 with Sonic Drive-ins, and Lacy Keller ’10 with Lowe’s. These alumni professionals have all done a bit of hiring in their time and shared insights with our students, along with Q&A. Additional Adulting 101 sessions will be held throughout the semester addressing subjects like Social Media Etiquette & Personal Branding, Decoding Personal Benefits, and Personal Finance/Budgeting. Stay tuned for more info on Day Six and the many ways we are working to meet our students' needs and transition them to purposeful careers. Hire a student intern or OC graduate at oc.edu/daysix!
