Lighting of the Commons 2016

Hello, Fellow Eagles! As we head into another Christmas season, on campus we can look back on a very good semester. By the time this letter is sent, we will have added just under 100 new alums, as well as 150+ advanced degree graduates to our number with our winter graduation. Within my 40+ years here at OC, it seems like a very short time ago that our December graduate numbers were barely in the double-digit range. We have been blessed with great growth over the years. We solicit your prayers for our students as they travel to and from their destinations over the holidays. We wish the same for you and your families.

Annual Winter Wonderland Week

Will ('07), Amy (Pierce '09), Penny and Lincoln Blanchard

What has become an excellent tradition at OC over the last several years is the week including "Lighting of the Commons", "Cocoa and Carols" and the "Holiday Hustle" - together referred to as "Winter Wonderland Week".

This year's week added one other feature - that of "Homeward Pride", the club fund-raising competition for the Homeward Program. Congratulations to our OC alumni for making this program and our university one of the top in the country! Eagles continue to come through! With the total emphasis on 'participation' and not amount, it allows alums at any level to be a part of the program. The nation-wide percentages of university giving is tracked by U.S. News and World Report.

Our Homeward Pride Club Competition results are in! In just seven days, our ten service clubs raised more than $10,000 with over 500 grad givers. A huge congratulations goes out to the men of Delta for claiming first place, as well as the men and women of Chi and Iota for taking second and third.
A special "thank you" goes out to our grads. Thank you for spreading the word and continuing to invest in our students. They sure are an exceptional bunch. If you didn't get a chance to take part in Homeward Pride, we invite you to visit www.oc.edu/homeward for more information and giving opportunities. While the competition has ended, the mission hasn't. Our clubs are still working hard toward their passion projects. If you have any further questions, please contact Aimee at aimee.furrie@oc.edu. She'd love to hear from you!

New Business Finance Lab

Jody Jones-Faculty, Lydia Harlow-student, Jill Castilla-President of Citizens Bank of Edmond, OC President John deSteiguer, Tip Burch ('82), Jeff Bonney ('77), James Billingsley ('82), Jeff Simmons ('91)

The Harvey Business Center will soon be offering something new for our finance students with the addition of the Citizens Bank Finance Lab. On Monday, Dec. 12, several donors and OC personnel participated in the 'wall-bashing' (in lieu of ribbon cutting) inside the classroom to be renovated. With 'Finance' being our largest major now within the College of Business, this lab will offer a number of 'trading stations' for our finance students to use in learning the stock market trade with live-time access to the market.  The project includes two stock 'tickers' - one for the lobby and one for the room itself. The lobby ticker was installed shortly after Thanksgiving.

Lobby TickerThanks to our generous corporate and alumni donors for making this valuable addition a reality for our students. To view footage of the 'bashing' and the lobby ticker, go to http://www.oc.edu/advancement/thrive/projects/business-administration-launch/citizens-bank-helps-oc-finance-get-loud

Children and grandchildren of OC alums receive an additional $50 discount. Exceptional students from across the nation will gather for the week to participate in a collegiate preparatory week with the mission to provide intellectual growth, spiritual maturation, and fellowship with gifted peers.

Students receive a full university experience – complete with daily chapel, engaging classes, master faculty, inspiring and informative field trips, labs, and more. Honors Summer Academy's total cost is $1,400, but Oklahoma Christian has generously underwritten the cost of tuition, lowering the per person cost to $600 which includes all meals, lodging, field experiences, access to computer labs, and much more.
