66th Homecoming- Coming your Way November 4-5!

They're back (or here for the first time) and enjoying unseasonably 'cool' weather! Last weekend began the student invasion that is.......SCHOOL YEAR! Even with that in play, this Friday we will graduate almost 30 new alums, along with even more graduate students, in our summer graduation. Some Eagles launched.........some hatched. Fortunately, the cycle continues into year 66 for your alma mater. Now, to what's happened, happening and scheduled TO happen.

Homecoming 2016, November 4,5

This year's "Get Your Kicks in Year 66" homecoming now has it's slate of honorees for the Friday night Alumni Banquet - at a NEW TIME of  5:30 pm.
Honorees are:
Chris Young ('00) - Distinguished Alumnus -  Chris, since leaving OC's tennis program as a player and coach, has quickly built an outstanding career in NCAA I tennis, including a near national title with Oklahoma State University's Women's tennis program.
Scott Filleman ('06)  -  Distinguished Young Alumnus - Beginning his music teaching career in OKC's inner city with Santa Fe South's non-existent music program, Scott built that program from the ground up, even to the point of having to secure instruments for the students. Scott now moves on to Oklahoma Christian Academy in Edmond to further build that program. We recognize Scott for not shying away from a great challenge and enriching the lives of deserving young people. A great definition of an OC alum.
Scott & Sonya Young  -  Honorary Alumni  -  Scott and Sonya have been a part of the OC community for many years now.  Sonya works in our Office of Student Life as the assistant to the Dean of Students, and Scott has meshed his role as Worship Minister with the Memorial Road Church of Christ with the lives of our OC students in multiple ways, including leading singing in our chapel services numerous times per year. This couple could not be more suited for this honor of becoming official members of our family.
Alumni Works in Africa  - Missions Award  - As we honored our alumni's works in the country of Brazil a couple of years ago, this year we honor those alumni who have had significant roles in spreading the Gospel and it's good works throughout the continent of Africa. Names of specific individuals and works will be given next month, but OC's influence through a large number of alumni has made a huge difference in this part of the world. We look forward to displaying that influence at that time.

Watch for dinner reservations to open in September for the banquet.
The complete Homecoming schedule 'to date' can be seen at www.oc.edu/events/homecoming/.  This schedule will be updated as changes or additions occur, so use it as your main source.
"The Music Man" musical tickets will go on sale online in September.  Again, please note the NEW TIME for each performance at 7:30 pm.
Featured reunions:
Class of 1966 -  50 year class
70's Decade Barn Bash

Grady King ('77) joins OC Staff

With recent retirements and re-locations, the OC 'Church Relations' department has been under the part-time watch of Stafford North while the administration searched for a person to continue the work in that department.Grady King ('77), alumnus and long-time preacher and church consultant has worked out an arrangement with the university to fill that role. For a more complete story on this appointment, go to www.oc.edu/news/oc-partners-with-king-for-church-resourcing-service.

Annual OC 'Prayer Muster' Approaching

OC Prayer Muster will take place Sunday, August 28th this year. Prayer Muster is a chance for you to spend time in prayer for Oklahoma Christian’s upcoming school year. We covet your prayers for our students, faculty, and staff as we embark upon the 2016-17 academic year. Prayer Muster grew from an on campus event that used to be held the night before classes began called Prayer Night. OC alumni who were geographically too far away to be involved on campus in prayer night came up with the idea of Prayer Muster. Prayer Muster is an opportunity for alumni and friends of OC to spend time together wherever they may be, in prayer for Oklahoma Christian. We’d love to hear about or see photos of any groups who get together during Prayer Muster 2016. If you post your photos to social media, please use the hashtag #OCPrayerMuster. We look forward to hearing about and seeing all of you lifting OC in prayer on August 28th.

Summer Honors Students Play with the HTC Vive

OC's Gaming and Animation Program Busting at the Seams! -Our fastest growing academic program on campus is the 'exploding' Gaming and Animation program.  Begun by Dr. Tony Alley, and now under the masterful leadership of Jeff Price, this major is literally pushing the walls out of it's campus location. With the recent generous donations toward program enhancement and expansion, this program is moving to an 'in-progress' remodeled location on campus. For more complete details about this program growth, go to www.oc.edu/advancement/thrive/blog.html.

66th Annual OC Lectures "To God's Elect"

OC's 66th Annual Lectureship is shaping up to be excellent.  Peter's message to Christians living in a hostile culture is certainly a relevant message to Christians today.  All keynote lectures and classes will provide information and inspiration to help you face the world around.

We are especially glad to feature Dr. Kent Brantly as our Sunday evening  keynote speaker.  Dr. Brantly inspired us all with his dedicated service and sacrifice when he contracted Ebola while doing aid work on the front lines of a major outbreak in West Africa.  He will be speaking on "To God's Elect:  Serving Those in Need" taken from 1 Peter 4:10.  And as always, Acappella will be performing Sunday evening after the keynote lecture.

Dr. Jerry Rushford ('65) will be speaking on “If You Suffer as a Christian” at the Dinner Honoring Elders and Preachers and Wives, at 5:00 p.m. on Monday evening. Following dinner, you can choose from five classes taught by Dan Branch ('80), Jim Martin, Wissam Al-Aethawi, Jim Weaver ('84), and a panel of OC students with Jay Mack ('12). Chris McCurley will speak in chapel message Tuesday at 11 am.

Our schedule is now posted and we hope you will note the special tracks and speakers for women, youth ministers, elders, preachers, and those just wanting to study the great verses in I Peter written "To God's Elect".  Make plans to join us at Oklahoma Christian University October 2-4, 2016!

Please join us this year for three days of great Bible study, practical lessons for elders, preachers, wonderful exhibits, and fellowship with other Christians.

Submit your Milestones

September will feature our fall/homecoming version of Vision magazine.  In addition to complete Homecoming information, we will include our usual Milestones section where you can read up on what's happening with your classmates. To let your classmates know what's happening with YOU, birth, job change, marriage, etc., send your information to alumni@oc.edu.  Also, if you have received a 'Lil Eagle' shirt for a new baby, or backsack for new 'schooler', take a picture and send it to the email.  We'd love to include those.  To receive toddler t-shirts or backsacks, just make sure the OC Alumni Office has your children's birth dates on file. Submissions for this issue of Vision should be submitted by Aug. 31.

Stafford North's Good News Newsletter

Be sure to read Good News for August which brings stories of hundreds being baptized in India, a solar player which has great possibilities for spreading the gospel, how Healing Hands brings the gospel through teaching better farming, a picture of a new congregation in Burma with news of other work in Asia, and of baptisms at a prison in Nebraska.
Hungry for some “good news,” then read Good News.  Be sure to send a note about August Good News to your church email list or other lists to which you have access.  Send stories to stafford.north@oc.edu. Connect with Good News at www.oc.edu/goodnews.

Until September.......stay healthy, my Friend.

In Him,
Bob Lashley ('74)
