In 1958, Central Christian College, now Oklahoma Christian University, moved from its campus in Bartlesville to Oklahoma City. In the five decades that have followed, it is difficult to imagine a better partnership between a growing institution and its surrounding community. It is our hope that through the years and through our combined efforts, we have helped make Oklahoma City a stronger, more vibrant city.
Having collaborated in the past on major endeavors, we are seeking partnerships once more on a project we believe will have lasting impact on the greater Oklahoma City community and beyond. The Heart of America Campaign represents the rebirth of an Oklahoma City icon—Enterprise Square—and a recommitment to equipping a new generation of leaders with the leadership skills needed in an increasingly complex world.
Through the renovation of Enterprise Square, Oklahoma Christian will be able to grow its programs designed to promote human liberty, free enterprise, and servant leadership through programs such as the Oklahoma Leadership Academy, the Southwest Youth Leadership Conference and our newest offering, Business Week 2008. Furthermore, it will provide an ideal place to house permanent displays such as the Sales Marketing Executive International (SMEI) Hall of Achievement, the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame, and the Call to Freedom art display.
The reconfigured building will also provide the OC community a first-rate facility from which we can expand our academic offerings. Under the leadership of OC president Mike O’Neal, the school has experienced unprecedented growth, and we are rapidly nearing capacity. With the addition of Enterprise Square to our current list of academic facilities, OC will gain the use of 11 large
classrooms, a small meeting hall, a spacious student center, a small bookstore, and an expansive area for exhibits. Keeping in line with the donors’ original intent to have a facility dedicated to teaching the value of citizenship and free enterprise, the facility will house programs such as the Academy of Leadership & Liberty, the undergraduate and graduate schools of Business Administration, and the university’s International Program offices. The building will also provide an ideal location for OC’s executive offices. In all, the reconfigured facility will have approximately 70,000 square feet of usable space.
An additional benefit of renovating Enterprise Square is the amount of space that will be made available throughout the OC campus upon the relocation of the School of Business Administration, the International Programs offices and the executive offices. Much of the space currently occupied in the 24,000-square-foot Harvey Business Center, an entire corner of the Cogswell-Alexander Hall, and nearly half of the second floor of the Mabee Learning Center will be used by other growing programs in need of additional room.
Witnessing growth in almost every area throughout the campus, it is a great time to be at OC. In addition to the nearly-completed Lawson Commons and the Freede Centennial Tower, strides are also being made in securing the funds for the addition of the Dr. Kim Gaither Center for Biology to the Herold Science Hall. We believe we are making a difference in the world by preparing men and women to lead lives of service— and we need your help. While much has changed since this great institution moved to Oklahoma City in 1958, our desire to promote traditional values through innovative methods has not. We are hopeful you will partner with us in this pursuit.
