Rebecca Busingye operates a secondary high school called ESSA Nyarugunga. The school serves 1100 students and employs 56 teachers. Their main focus is on promoting a quality education, teaching children with maximum commitment, and achieving a 95% graduation rate.
Born in Uganda, Rebecca moved back to Rwanda in 1995. In addition to serving as Principle at ESSA High School since 2006, previous career highlights include working as a Field Officer for the De-mobilization Commission (1998-2000), chairing the Inkingi Association (promotion of women development) and serving as an accountant for Coopec Intabwe from 2004-2006.
Rebecca hopes for the future includes beginning her own school based on her belief that education is the key to ever lasting development for the individual and the nation. She visualizes a school built on her experience, operating according to government development plans and standards of Vision 2020. She hopes to pass on to students the tools she learned in a 2007 training class aimed at fighting genocide ideology in schools. Rebecca hopes that the training received in the Peace Through Business program will enable her to achieve this goal.
Rebecca holds a BA in Accounting from the National University of Rwanda and an Advanced certificate of Education from Mityana Secondary School. She was born in 1973 and is married to Bruce Munyambo. Rebecca serves as the Chairperson of Good Women in her church and Chairperson of Docus Ministry, which assists students who are survivors of the genocide.
