Dr. Nathan B. Mellor - Executive Director

Dr. Nathan B. Mellor Dr. Nathan B. Mellor is the Executive Director of the Academy of Leadership and Liberty. In addition, Dr. Mellor is Vice President of Community Engagement and Chief of Staff for Oklahoma Christian University as well as Assistant Professor of Leadership in the School of Business Administration where he teaches courses in Ethics, Law and Leadership at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Formerly an Adjunct Professor at the Pepperdine University School of Law, Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Malibu, California, Dr. Mellor is also a summer fellow at the Vanderbilt Peabody College of Education & Human Development, Nashville, Tennessee. 

Mellor holds the Bachelor of Arts (1995) and the Master of Education (1997) degrees from Harding University, the Master of Dispute Resolution (2005) degree from Pepperdine University School of Law and the Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University (2007). 

Prior to joining the faculty of OC, Dr. Mellor was the Assistant Director of the prestigious Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine University School of Law. The Straus Institute is currently ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the number one program Dispute Resolution program in America. He has also participated in non-academic training programs in managing workplace dispute at the Program on Negotiation at the Harvard School of Law.

Mellor is a professional leadership consultant and dispute resolution specialist and has provided services for organizations such as: Bechtel National, California State University, Chico County Courts, the Department of Energy, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers, Lexis-Nexus and Nationwide Insurance. Through the firms of C. Richard Barnes and Associates, LLC and Strategic Resolutions Group, LLC he has conducted training programs in Group Dynamics, Strategic Negotiation Skills and Workplace Conflict.

Dr. Mellor has consulted, trained and lectured throughout America including the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee and Washington. Professor Mellor has traveled extensively in pursuit of his interests in Education, Humanitarianism and Religion. He has traveled to: Belize, Central America (1996); Brisbane, Australia (1997); Dubna, Russia (1993, 1994, and 1995); England (1993); Guyana, South America (1988, 1990, 1998, 1999, and 2000); Israel (1995); Monterrey, Mexico (2004) and Rostov-on-Don, Russia (1992).

While a student at Harding University, Nathan was named among the Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, played intercollegiate football and was voted Student Body President. Upon graduation he was selected as the Graduate Assistant to the President of the University. Following the completion of his first graduate degree, he was hired by Harding to help establish the Institute for Church and Family.

As a student at Pepperdine University, Mellor was selected as a Fellow at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution and was named a Colleague by the Graduate School of Education and Psychology. He was named a honorary mediator for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in 2005. Nathan and his wife Christie were married on May 17, 1997 and have two daughters. Annalise (b. 2000) and Arden (b. 2003). His parents, David and Susan Mellor reside in Chattanooga, Tennessee where David is a minister for the East Brainerd church of Christ. His older brother, Matthew, is a school teacher in Little Rock, Arkansas.
