About the Academy

Mission Statement

The Academy of Leadership and Liberty carries out two of the University's core values, and its mission is to uphold, teach, and strengthen the values which undergird liberty, free enterprise, and servant leadership.

Purpose

Oklahoma Christian University is a distinctly Christian community of higher learning and higher calling, valuing Faith, Scholarship, Integrity, Stewardship, Liberty, and Leadership

Liberty:  The University cherishes the principles of religious, intellectual, social, economic, and political freedom that are blessings from our Creator and upon which this nation was founded. Freedom is purposeful selection of that which is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. As an integral part of its educational mission, the University seeks to uphold, teach, and strengthen values which undergird liberty, free enterprise, and servant-leadership. As the University seeks to engage the culture and share the blessings of the Christian faith and liberty with the community and the world, it cultivates a global perspective and prepares students for life in a complex, demanding, and changing global community.

Leadership: The University affirms the value of preparing and encouraging leaders to use their talents and abilities in service to others. We believe the cultivation of servant leaders has a profound and lasting impact on individuals, families, communities, and nations. The University is committed to providing classes, symposia and other resources that help individuals to identify their God given gifts and equip them to exercise those gifts to promote Christian principles of peace, compassion, and equality. We believe that effective leaders must possess a global perspective informed by a rigorous liberal arts education rooted in Biblical understanding. The University will seek to collaborate with like-minded individuals and organizations dedicated to developing leaders of character, vision and courage.

The Academy of Leadership & Liberty carries out two of the University’s core values, and its mission is to uphold, teach, and strengthen the values which undergird liberty, free enterprise, and servant leadership.

To accomplish that mission, we seek to inspire leaders of character, vision, and courage while equipping them to have a profound and lasting impact on individuals, families, communities, and nations.  Guided by faith and the principles of servant leadership, character, and social justice; we are committed to continuing the values and freedoms that are cultivated by the founding wisdom of our republic.

Engaging Culture:  Unwilling to accept the status quo, we are tackling some of the most complex issues of our time.  We are engaging the culture around us through community events, extensive press coverage, and vital media partnerships.  The consistent focus remains liberty, freedom, and leadership development.  Our programs have been featured on CNN, Fox News, and several print media outlets throughout the country, as well as regional ABC, CBS, and NBC affiliates.

Empowering Youth:  Understanding that our children are our future, our programs provide unparalleled access to world renowned leaders and experts.  By providing young people opportunities to meaningfully interact with quality leadership, we provide a platform for today’s leaders and a training ground for the leaders of tomorrow.  Our focus for these young leaders must continue to be teaching critical issues such as the responsibility of citizenship, free enterprise, and good governance.  Four Star Debate: Developing Leaders with General Tommy Franks, Oklahoma Leadership Academy, and the Southwest Youth Leadership Conference each provide students the ability to learn from and interact with the politically diverse men and women who are making decisions that affect them every day.

Convening Stakeholders:  Recognizing that teamwork and cooperation are vital for the success of any idea, our efforts focus on bringing all parties to the table and encouraging healthy dialogue to reach a solution.  Avoiding partisanship and power, we choose instead to air and weigh multiple viewpoints so Americans can make informed decisions about the future. In keeping with the American ideal, we believe that the true way and the right way will be made apparent if open and honest dialogue is made available.  Through programs like the International Energy Policy Conference and the Complex Dialogues series, we are hosting some of the most influential business and political leaders, learning from their perspectives, and challenging them to search for ways to improve the lives of everyone involved while protecting and celebrating the liberty we hold dear.

Honoring Heroes:  Mindful of the debt we owe our service men and women, our constant message is to always consider the cost of the liberties we enjoy.  We are proud to partner with the Oklahoma Military Heritage Foundation and to be the home of the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame.  Through the Libertas award, we celebrate and honor individual heroes or organizations exemplifying free enterprise and those exceptional business leaders with strong values.  Additional programs such as Constitution Day allow us to continue educating future generations about the wisdom of our nation’s founding principles.

Inspiring Action:  In every program or event we conduct, our goal is to produce leadership toward positive change for our communities.  America’s strength lies in her people, and her people must be informed and engaged in the process for their voices to be heard.  Our programs provide access to the information and the leaders that citizens need to make informed decisions.  Academy programs are inspiring hearts and minds by reminding them of the promise of liberty, and we are directing them towards achieving the American dream for themselves and their communities. Participants do not leave our programs with dreams alone; they leave with leadership skills and the confidence to make a difference.
