ECE Objectives and Outcomes

Introduction

Offering Christians an outstanding engineering education that integrates Christian values and faith into engineering practice benefits both the graduate and the graduate's employer. Here you can find our Objectives and Outcomes.

• By Objectives we refer to the long-term positive impact an EE or CE degree from OC will have on the graduate's life.
  
• By Outcomes we refer to the skills and knowledge-base the EE or CE graduate will possess at graduation.

Our Outcomes are chosen to ensure that all our graduates will achieve our Objectives .

Objectives

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering considers its primary constituents to be fourfold: industry, the Christian community, prospective students who are looking for an engineering education at a Christian university, and parents of these students. Working with these constituents, we have set the following Program Educational Objectives:

Oklahoma Christian University graduates with an Electrical or Computer Engineering degree will use the talents God has given them to make a difference through

1. enjoying a successful career characterized by

a. keeping at the forefront of technology and adapting to changes in industry,
b. contributing effectively to any aspect of the engineering process, and
c. functioning well in the workplace as an integral member of a team; and

2. internalizing a personal faith in God that is exhibited by:

a. consistent ethical behavior based on Christian principles,
b. an exemplary work ethic consistent with their Christian worldview, and
c. a stable life that balances career, family, church and community.

Outcomes

Goal 1 The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department will produce graduates who have the technical knowledge to be immediately productive in industry.

Outcome 1 Graduates will be able to apply appropriate math, science and engineering principles when solving problems, conducting experiments and realizing designs related to their discipline.

Outcome 2 Graduates will be able to apply state-of-the-art tools and techniques when solving problems, conducting experiments and realizing designs related to their discipline.

Goal 2 The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department will produce graduates who have mastered the essential engineering methodologies to be immediately productive in industry.

Outcome 1 Graduates will demonstrate the ability to solve problems related to their disciplines.

Outcome 2 Graduates will demonstrate the ability to perform experiments when verifying solutions, analyses, or designs related to their discipline.

Outcome 3 Graduates will demonstrate a systems approach to design.

Goal 3 The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department will produce graduates who have mastered the essential workplace skills to be immediately productive in industry.

Outcome 1 Graduates will demonstrate good project-management skills.

Outcome 2 Graduates will be able to perform in multidisciplinary teams.

Outcome 3 Graduates will be able to effectively prepare formal written documents.

Outcome 4: Graduates will demonstrate effective formal oral communications.

Outcome 5: Graduates will demonstrate effective ethical decision-making.

Outcome 6: Graduates will recognize the need for and the ability to continually learn new technologies and material outside a class setting.

Goal 4 The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department will produce well-rounded graduates who are prepared for leadership and service.

Outcome 1: Graduates will be involved in a variety of service activities that benefit society.

Outcome 2: Graduates will demonstrate a faith in God exhibited through personal devotional practices and a value system based on Christian principles.

Outcome 3: Graduates will be able to apply their broad education in examining the impact of engineering solutions on society.

Outcome 4: Graduates will be able to examine the impact of contemporary issues on the engineering profession.

Faculty Facts

Pat Smith is a Professor of Engineering. He says his favorite memory so far at Oklahoma Christian is: "The moment one of my students shared the news that he had landed a dream job at Cisco Systems. We had worked together to prepare him and he did great in the interviews. He was so excited." Smith is the sponsor for Alpha Gamma Omega and the Eagle Game Group.
