OC Eagle

Engineer in Residence - Oct. 22-25, 2007

The School of Engineering sponsored Mr. Jeffrey Dimick, The Boeing Company, as an Engineering in Residence during the week of Oct. 22-25. The week was filled with lectures and discussions with students and faculty. We hope to make this new learning opportunity a regular event.

Jeff Dimick graduated from Oklahoma Christian University in December 1983 with a BS in Math/Computer Science. After graduating from OC, Jeff obtained his MS in Theoretical Mathematics from Oklahoma State University. While at OSU, Jeff had the opportunity to travel to Southern California to participate in an internship with Hughes Aircraft Company (now part of The Boeing Company). Upon graduation from OSU, Jeff accepted a permanent position and has been at Boeing for 22 years. During this time, Jeff has transitioned from a member of the technical staff to program manager, covering such disciplines as orbit mechanics and ground control systems. In order to maintain a balanced life, Jeff, along with a good friend, ventured into the entertainment industry establishing a video post production company, One World Post. One World Post provides post production services for various TV shows, many of which are shown on MTV, VH1 and PBS. Jeff currently worships with the Hilltop Community Church of Christ in El Segundo, CA and is a founding board member of Hilltop Rescue, a relief organization, that was formed in response to Hurricane Katrina. One of Jeff's favorite hobbies is to go rock climbing in Joshua Tree National Park, CA. He is a Trustee of Oklahoma Christian University.

GPS Control - A Success Story

Monday Oct. 22, 7:00 pm, Room PEC 203

Jeff Dimick will share about the recent successes of the GPS Control Segment. On September 14 the current constellation of GPS satellites was transitioned from a legacy ground control to the new Architecture Evolution Plan (AEP) ground control system, and you didn't even notice. Then on October 17 the latest GPS satellite was successfully launched using the new Launch/Early Orbit, Anomaly Resolution, Disposal, and Operations (LADO) System. As Program Manager, Jeff has ultimate responsibility for delivering and sustaining both AEP & LADO. Come hear about some of the engineering and management challenges leading up to these significant milestones.
