An exploration of leadership and management concepts and their impact on nursing practice and the delivery of health care.  Leadership and management competencies will be implemented in a variety of practice settings.

Transforming Care: Nursing Theory in Practice

Nursing theories as a part of knowledge based of the profession.  The exploration and application of selected nursing & service theories utilized currently within the profession of nursing and nursing practice. 

Health Care Missions & Christian Service Strategies

As nurses, we are called to minister to the sick and vulnerable on a daily basis. “The Lord nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health” Psalms 41:3. This class will provide the opportunity to explore health care as a ministry and to study the diversity of various cultures and health care systems.

Pathophysiology

NURS 3013
A course studying the alterations in physiological well-being across the lifespan as pathological responses to disease, stress, genetics, and environmental changes occur within the body. Critical thinking, research findings, and scientific knowledge are applied to analyze individual outcomes throughout the course.

Treatment Modalities

NURS 3533
Exploration of new medications with nursing implications, alternative treatment modalities such as music as therapy, biofeedback, stress reduction techniques, hyperbaric treatment, and therapeutic touch.

Health Promotion & Wellness

NURS 4504
Emphasis on health promotion and illness prevention throughout the lifespan and acquisition/review of assessment skills.  Holistic health and wellness-focused interventions are introduced.

Go Into All the World: Community Nursing Across the Health Continuum

The emphasis is on a broad scope of Christian service and leadership experiences, from maintenance of health and prevention of illness, to promotion of wellness of communities, families and individuals.

Nursing Research

NURS 4033
This course will provide the tools needed for students to be able to understand the process of nursing research and critique nursing research.  The student will then be able to identify nursing research that can be applied to their practice.

Contemporary Christian Nursing Leadership

NURS 4523

Trends & Issues (ethical/legal) for Professional Practices

NURS 4533
This course is an exploration of ethics and caring concepts and their impact on nursing practice in the delivery of health care.  The student will use ethical, moral, and legal aspects of nursing in a system of professional values for practice decisions.  In addition, an exploration of the impact of advanced education on practice, and the nurse’s response to current trends and issues influencing health care delivery. Emphasis is placed on the interface between individual and professional development

Nursing Capstone

NURS 4542
This course is a synthesis course that requires senior students to demonstrate mastery of skills learned in general education and nursing courses. Special emphasis is placed on the implementation of change in response to identified needs/problems in selected healthcare setting. The major assignment is an evidence-based project that grows out of the student’s interest related to specific patient populations, professional nursing roles, and/or healthcare setting.
