Why a BSN degree

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommends that 80% of nurses hold a BSN by 2020, and hospitals around the country are working toward this end because of the need for nurses with broader and deeper training. Health care costs are requiring more nurses to be involved in and responsible for primary health care support and decisions.

While RNs and BSNs enter the market at the same pay rate, additional pay and advancement are becoming increasingly difficult for nurses unless they have a BSN degree.

Many major hospitals nationwide are striving for “Magnet Recognition,” the most prestigious distinction a healthcare organization can receive for nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes ( This recognition requires that the majority of the RNs employed in a particular facility have a BSN or higher degree.

Why OC is the best fit for you

OC Nursing is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. OC is recognized as one of the best Universities in the western United States by U.S. News & World Report and the Princeton Review.

OC’s RN to BSN program is unique for the state of Oklahoma in several ways. The online delivery of courses makes our program available to nurses who live and work in rural areas and in jobs where a traditional four-year degree option would be impossible. Because the program is online, it is available to nurses outside Oklahoma as well.

OC’s program is faith-based, setting it apart from non-faith-based programs around the state and around the country. Our Health Care Missions and Christian Service Strategies course is unique to OC’s RN to BSN program as we focus on the needs of underserved populations in the United States and abroad.
