tonaka and tokyo
the japanese "showers" and community baths are something new for all of us to experience kody was very happy to find his missing railpass and to have a fresh squeezed orange juice tanakason is so nice to come and take us to his favorite spots in tokyo the ginza shopping center is nice but expensive, at least the samples of chocolate are free chris and garrett noticed that things in japan are built much shorter than things in the united states

our first sunday at a real church! we are all excited to meet and fellowship with the ochianamitsu church of Christ potluck is world wide! and we all enjoy discovering new dishes made by the church members... even the stuffed squid. our devo at the utano youth hostel includes some australian high school students who are traveling japan and a few japanese high school students who came to translate

the temples of kyoto
the town of kyoto houses many temples from all different sects of buddhism, this one is the edo pure land buddhist temple called "the temple of the pure water" after a hard day of looking at temples, trent finds a cozy tree and takes a nap whew! kody is excited that his camera is not lost forever. it is time for kody to learn how to say "o naku imashita" translated "i have lost my..." trent and garrett give all the girls a flower before the group devo, how sweet the aussie's join us again for our devo as well as a british woman and three asian guys who spoke little to no english

hiroshima
this building was only moments from the center of where the a bomb exploded, it remains just as it was as a reminder of the devastation of war the box in the middle of the arch contains the names of those who died from the actual bomb and from the after effects of radiation kristi signs a petition to stop nuclear fighting trent, denver and elise all catch up on missed sleep on the train back to kyoto elisha impresses us all by balancing the lid to the rice dish on his head during dinner

from tokyo to nikko
happy birthday to you! elisha celebrates his 21st birthday in nikko kate, monica, and trent play follow the leader as they go see... ... the original hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil monkeys in the mean time, garrett, elise and erin enjoy a walk through the natural wonders of nikko don't worry mom, the doctors say i will be better in 4 weeks (shyla tears her mcl and acl in nikko)
