Program Director
Dr. Larry Jurney has served Oklahoma Christian in a variety of ways, including his roles as the first director of OC's Honors Program, as interim vice president for academic affairs, and as interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts.
Prior to becoming director of OC's Bridge Program, he was involved in an advisory role for the program and has many years of leadership in this work.
Jurney, who won OC's Faculty Leadership Award in 1998, serves as chair of the university's Department of Communication. He teaches Introduction to Electronic Media; Audio for Media; Video for Media; Broadcast News Production; Media Marketing and Sales; Television Field Production; Administrative Aspects of Electronic Media; and Search for Meaning: Christ and the Good Life, which is a core course in the Honors Program.
Jurney owns a bachelor's degree in communication from Lipscomb University; a master's degree in communication from the University of Tennessee; and a doctorate in radio/television/film from the University of Michigan.
He came to Oklahoma Christian in 1985 to begin the university's radio and television degree programs. Before joining the OC faculty, he served as an instructor and academic dean at Michigan Christian College, now Rochester College, in Rochester, Michigan.
Jurney is a founding member and former president of the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association. He earned OBEA's Distinguished Service Award in 2002 for his service and dedication to broadcast education in Oklahoma. He also has had two fellowships with the National Association of Television Program Executives.
His honors also include an Emmy for his work as an assistant producer on the documentary, "Dancing in Moccasins."
