Undergraduate Research Student Experiences

Misty (Young) Hseih
Misty graduated in 1996 with a degree in biology and started medical school at OU that same year. She finished her residency in Family Practice at OU in the spring of 2003 where she is currently serving her last year as chief resident. She and her husband Warren, an aerospace engineer and a graduate student in computer science at OU, live in Norman. Elaine (Craig) Coleman
Elaine graduated in 1995 with a degree in biology and began graduate school that same year at the University of North Texas. She transferred after one year to the University of Texas, Southwestern and is working on her PhD in immunology. She and her husband David, an engineer, live in Dallas. Elaine presented her undergraduate research at the OC Student Colloquium and won first place.
Kerry Rodgers
Kerry graduated in 1998 with a degree in biochemistry. Kerry worked for a year in industry and then started medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan in 1999. Kerry and his wife, Jenny, have two children. Kerry was the first OC student to present at OAS and won first place in the Microbiology section. He is also co-author on a paper published in Infect. Immunol. 67:3488-3493, 1999.
Eric Phelps
Eric graduated in 1999 with a degree in biology and started graduate school that same fall at Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center in the Department of Cell Biology. Eric and his wife, an elementary school teacher, have three children and live in Oklahoma City. Eric presented his undergraduate research at OAS and won not only first place in the Biomedical Sciences section, but the best overall presentation of the meeting! Eric Phelps Experiences

Adam Hoffhines
Adam graduated in 2002 and was the first student from OC to be admitted into an MD/PhD program which he began that same year at the University of Oklahoma. Adam presented his research at OAS and won first place in the Microbiology section and is also a co-author on a paper published in J. Endotoxin Research. Vol. 8, 2002.

Karen Reynolds
Karen graduated with a degree in biology in December of 2000 and has been working in the research laboratory of Dr. Myron Hinsdale at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Karen plans to begin graduate school in the fall of 2003. Karen presented her work at two OAS meetings and won first place in the Microbiology section both times. Amanda (McCormack) Nichols
Amanda graduated from OC with a degree in chemistry in the spring of 2003. Amanda attended graduate school at Oklahoma State University following graduation. She earned her Chemistry Ph.D in the summer of 2008 and now works as a professor at OC.
Ivey Thornton

Ivey graduated in 2002 and started medical school that same year at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Ivey presented her work at OAS and won first place in the Biomedical Sciences section. Ivey Thornton Experiences
